Most heat pump problems show up in a few familiar ways: rooms that never get warm, hot water that runs cold, an error code on the controller, ice that does not clear from the outdoor unit, or a unit that has become noticeably louder. The cause is often in the wider system rather than the heat pump itself, such as low system pressure, a blocked filter, poor flow, a faulty sensor or controls set up as if for a boiler. We start by reading the fault history and checking flow temperatures, pressures and settings, then look at the unit, pipework and cylinder. Where a part has failed, we explain what it is and what the repair involves. Where the system has simply been set up badly, adjusting it can fix the problem without new parts. If replacing would make more sense than repairing, we will tell you why.
