An air source heat pump replaces your boiler with an outdoor unit that takes heat from the air and feeds it to your radiators or underfloor heating at a lower, steadier temperature. Getting that right starts with a room-by-room heat-loss survey, so the unit is sized for your home rather than guessed from the old boiler's output.

What the installation involves

We agree where the outdoor unit will sit, with space for airflow, a solid base and a sensible pipe run into the house. Most homes also need a new hot-water cylinder, and some rooms need larger radiators to stay warm at heat-pump temperatures. On site, the old boiler comes out, the unit, cylinder and controls go in, and the system is flushed, filled and commissioned. Before we leave, we show you how the controls work and how to get the best running costs from them. Your quote sets out the expected days on site.

Grant and VAT

The government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is currently £7,500 for an eligible air source heat pump, and qualifying installations in homes are zero-rated for VAT. We go through both with you before you commit, along with the MCS-certified route the grant requires.

How long does an air source heat pump installation take?
It depends on the house and how many radiators change. We plan the work so you are without heating and hot water for as short a time as possible.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
Usually against an outside wall or on a base in the garden, with clear space around it for airflow. We check noise, distance to neighbours and the pipe route into the house when we survey.
Can I get the £7,500 grant?
Most homeowners replacing gas, oil, LPG or electric heating with an eligible heat pump can, subject to the scheme's property checks. We confirm it with you before quote stage.
